So, I watched Drive for the first time last night. Amazing movie.  I know, I’m probably coming at this fantastically late, but I enjoyed it and wanted to post a review-ish type thing.
A lot of people would probably complain about how slow paced it feels.  I watched it with my family and I know that mom did.  But the action picks up speed so quickly that it eclipses any sluggishness you thought the movie had previously.
I’ve also not been one who enjoys Ryan Gosling.  He’s just… I don’t know, too much of a ladies man.  Coming into this I felt like he wouldn’t be able to pull off a role like this.  Going out of it I was just in awe.  And it did instill a hope in me that he will effectively pull off Gangster Squad.
Carrie Mulligan was cute.  Not gorgeous, but cute.  And that’s really all I can say about her.  She’s a cheater, even if her husband was in jail, that’s no excuse.  And there wasn’t much to see of her.  Other than that, good actor, I guess.
Bryan Cranston.  If you’ve known me for any amount of time you’ll know I’ve had a Breaking Bad obsession.  I look at this guy and think, is he really Malcolm’s dad? And even in this film I just don’t see it.  He transforms himself so well for every role he’s offered.  I would really like to see a movie where he has a starring role so we can get a full sense of his actor skill set — although, we already know that it is pretty great.
Anyway, easily hated antagonists.  Clear story.  Pacing was phenomenal.  The soundtrack was great.  The awkward silences made the movie have this great tone.  Loved it.  If it were still in theaters it would be worth a full price ticket.  Definitely a buy.
